Sealing a quarter-turn fastener assembly
A quarter-turn fastener can be fitted with gaskets to help limit the entry of water, dust and other contaminants through the panel opening.
The correct sealing components depend on the TurnLock series, fastener head style and panel arrangement. Some assemblies require a gasket above the panel and another gasket or sealing component underneath it.
TurnLock offers sealing options for the MTHTL, HGRTL dan HHSTL siri.
A gasketed fastener is not automatically waterproof
Gaskets help seal the fastener opening, but the final protection level also depends on the panel surface, gasket compression, installation accuracy, surrounding panel joints and operating environment. The complete assembly should be tested if a specific ingress-protection rating is required.

OPTION 1
Sealing an MTHTL quarter-turn fastener
Bagi Medium Duty Tiny Housed TurnLock – MTHTL Series, the sealed arrangement is intended for slotted or cross-recessed stud versions.
The assembly uses:
- MTHGOR outer gasket around the head of the fastener
- MTHGIR inner gasket underneath the panel
- MTHWFS retaining washer to retain and support the sealing arrangement
The outer and inner gaskets seal both sides of the panel opening. The retaining washer is required for the arrangement shown in the drawing.
Selecting the MTHTL gasket type
The drawing indicates the following relationship:

Sealing an HGRTL quarter-turn fastener
. Heavy Duty Grommet Retained TurnLock – HGRTL Series includes sealed stud versions such as:
- HGRTLSS-*Z
- HGRTLSC-*Z
These versions require two additional sealing components:
- HGRGOR outer gasket around the upper side of the stud opening
- HGRGIP inner gasket positioned around the retained section underneath the panel
Both gaskets should be installed in the correct position so that the panel opening is sealed from above and below.
OPTION 3
Sealing an HHSTL quarter-turn fastener
Bagi Heavy Duty High Strength TurnLock – HHSTL Series, the sealing arrangement uses a rubber gasket together with a supporting buffer plate.

The rubber gasket is compressed between the fastener and panel, while the buffer plate provides a supporting surface underneath the head assembly.
A retaining washer may also be used where required by the selected stud configuration.
Which sealing arrangement should you use?
Choose MTHTL
Suitable for compact medium-duty assemblies using a slotted or cross-recessed MTHTL stud with inner and outer gaskets.
Choose HGRTL
Suitable for heavy-duty grommet-retained assemblies where the fastener should remain attached to the removable panel.
Choose HHSTL
Suitable for high-strength assemblies requiring a rubber gasket and supporting buffer plate around the stud opening.
Important installation checks

Remember to include the gasket thickness
Adding a gasket can change the total grip thickness of the assembly. The gasket, buffer plate and retaining components must therefore be considered when selecting the correct stud length.
